Consent
Consent should be the basis for every sexual encounter.
No one is responsible for teaching these teens about safe sex practices, healthy relationships, and the value of love. This lack of comprehensive sexual education for youth in foster care has a significant correlation with high pregnancy rates and contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, among many other negative outcomes.
Fostering Media Connections has created a series of "webisodes" that address the importance of sex education. They are: "Why We Need the Talk," "The Sex Talk," and "The Talk in Action." Each video has interviews with youth from foster care. In adition to these videos, there is a list of both national and state teen sexual health resources. Click below to learn more.
Fostering Success Michigan is a program of Educate Tomorrow that aims to increase access and success in higher education and post-college careers for youth with experience in foster care. Learn how you can contribute to building a holistic network that insulates (i.e., strengthens protective factors and reduces risks) the education to career "pipeline."
